The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State has started strategising on how to reclaim the state from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019 if feelers from the opposition party are anything to go by.

Part of the plan included the zoning of the governorship candidate of the party to Zone ‘C’ (Niger-North), admission and registration of new members and as well reconciling aggrieved members at ward, local government and zonal levels.

Investigation by our correspondent in the state also revealed that, PDP has other strategies to recapture Niger State in the next political dispensation, which included accommodation of more women and youths in positions at all levels.

Interested candidates for any elective positions from ward, local government council to state levels must follow due process according to the desires of the people as the party in the state would no longer tolerate imposition of candidates to avoid mistakes of the past.

The biting hunger, poverty caused by economic hardship due to recession, maladministration, including policy summersault and high-handedness that has sent many Nigerlites to their early graves is said to be part of the sins the incumbent administration that has spent less than two years in office committed.

Alleged recent diversion of monies collected from students who sat for the last June/July National Examination Council (NECO) in the state and refusing to remit same, leading to the seizure of the results is said to be among the height of impunity by a government that claims to have zero tolerance for corruption.

Already, the party has announced the zoning of the governorship seat to Niger-North senatorial zone which incidentally is the same district the incumbent Governor Sani Bello hails from as announced by the state PDP chairman, Tanko Beji, when he granted audience to the party leaders from the senatorial zone led by the zonal vice chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Ability.

Zoning of the party’s governorship seat to zone ‘C’ described by the party chairman as ‘best interest, fairness, equity and justice’ also received the blessings of Engr. Abdulkhadri Kure, the former Governor, leader of the party in the state and member board of trustees of the PDP.

Kure in supporting Zone C for the next dispensations’ governorship ticket however warned that whoever would emerge as the governor on the PDP platform would only be allowed one term since the incumbent governor from the area would be spending the first four years.
