The Okpe Progressive Forum (OPF) led by Mrs. Martha Ikpeba has condemned the activities of sycophants who it described as evil doers in the politics of Okpe.

The group noted that “it is very painful and heartbreaking for some few selfish and disgruntled elements to out rightly condemn the women groups of non-performance in the various elections”.

Mrs. Ikpeba reaction followed “recent insinuations, campaign of calumny and accusations by some ‘disgruntled’ elements that the various women political groups recently inaugurated in Orerokpe, headquarters of Okpe LGA of Delta state, did not perform during the just concluded general elections”.

In a statement in Orerokpe, headquarters of the council area, Ikpeba disclosed that right from the campaigns to the elections, the groups, especially the Okpe Progressive Forum, was fully on ground as a PDP group to work for its candidates.

She said “after the major campaign of the Okpe PDP Campaign Organisation across over 64 communities in the 10 wards of the council area, we, the members of Okpe Progressive Forum (OPF) went round the same communities for campaigns with Okpe PDP bus for President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor-elect, Senator Okowa, Senator-elect, Amori, Hon. Oboro, and Chief Sheriff Oborevwori; so we are not happy that we are being accused of not working for the PDP candidates.

“Again, Ward one, which comprises of Orerokpe and Okuloh is inhabited by several ethnic interest groups unlike other wards in the council area; so it is wrong and absurd for anybody to feel that only the women forum can deliver PDP.

“We were told that somebody from Ward one was telling some persons that if the women in the various fora visit any of the successful candidates, they should be locked out because they did not perform.

“If so, four years is not too long, may be only that women or those persons want to come out in 2019 and vote for PDP candidates in Okpe since they felt that no Orerokpe woman voted for PDP apart from few persons,” the statement said.

The women, therefore, vowed not to meet any of the victorious candidates to either celebrate or beg for anything from them as they did not work for them, adding that by 2019, when they get to the bridge, they would cross it through a round table negotiation with any PDP aspirant or candidate.

The group pleaded with its members not to get infuriated, assuring that those who feel that the women worked will ignore the negative and wicked insinuations and do what is right for them.

“After all nobody gave us a kobo to work for him before the elections. The only money we got was the money for our inauguration.

“That money was not election money. So, we are not afraid or disturbed by this high level of betrayal and sycophancy,” Martha stated.
