FIFTEEN people were reportedly killed by a landslide in north eastern Nepal on Thursday June 11, 2015, with death toll expected to rise.

So far, about 31 people are still buried under the rubbles.

The officials said 15 bodies were recovered from the in the north eastern district of Taplejung.

Landslides hit six villages in the district after heavy monsoon rain fell on Wednesday June 10.

Part of the country was destabilised by earthquakes in April and May.

About a dozen houses and two schools were hit by the landslides and six suspension bridges were washed away by swollen rivers.

“Ongoing rain is hampering rescue efforts,” police said.

More than 8,700 people died in Nepal after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 25 and several aftershocks, including one of magnitude 7.3 on May 12.
