12-year-old-girl emerges winner of Lagos Spelling Bee competition

12-year-old Tijani Boluwatife of Araromi Primary School, Agege has emerged winner in the primary category of this year’s Spelling Bee competition.

The competition which was keenly contested among 57 contestants across the local governments and local council development areas of the state was held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium Alausa, Ikeja.

Also, 10 year old Iretiola Ifaniyi of Methodist Primary School Ibeshe and 10 year old Jonathan Awobodu of Abesan Primary School second and third position respectively.

At the event, the winner Tijani was rewarded with a plague and a cheque of N150,000 while the second and the third position smile home with N100,000 and N75,000 respectively.

Speaking at the competition, Director-General Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo explained that the competition which is aimed at developing the innate skills of pupils in primary, junior and senior secondary schools in the state has been able to fulfil the ultimate goals of creating healthy rivalry amongst the students as well as drawing out their intellectual capabilities.

He assured that the office of education quality assurance as newly created agency has already set in motion machineries aimed at improving the quality of education in the state.

It would be recalled that the annual spelling bee competition among pupils and students of public primary and secondary schools was initiated in 2001 by New Era Foundation under the leadership of the former first lady of the state Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
