The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has sent a delegation to the crisis rocking Burkina Faso to negotiate with the military junta with a view to restoring peace in the land.

The delegation which has President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria and his counterparts from Togo, Ghana, Benin and Senegal, was mandated to leave for Burkina Faso on Tuesday.?

This was the outcome of the extraordinary meeting of the Heads of States and Government of ECOWAS which held at the instance of Buhari at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, same day.

At the end of the 8-hour meeting, ?President of ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Ouedraogo Desire, summarised the resolutions in a communiqué he read out in French to journalists.

He disclosed that the West African leaders resolved to lift the sanctions imposed on Burkina Faso since the military coup.

He also stated that ECOWAS called for cease fire among the forces, adding that military and humanitarian observers would be sent during the elections to forestall loss of human lives.
